This is a video about the life and work of Woldeab Woldemariam, often considered to be the "grandfather of Eritrea". He was educated by Swedish missionaries in Eritrea (then a province of Ethiopia), and later worked as a teacher and journalist. He later became one of the most outspoken supporters of Eritrean independence, and after a failed attempt to assasinate him, he moved to Egypt, where he broadcast pirate radio programs back to Eritrea. Woldeab Woldemariam is also known for his mastery of the Tigrinya language, for his support of Eritrean culture as the basis of Eritrean independence, and for his advocacy of religious tolerance among the diverse Eritrean population.
