This book of beginner's Tigrinya was widely used in the underground school's which existed during Eritrea's thirty year war for independence. And it was also the text with which the first generation of Eritreans raised in Edmonton were taught Tigrinya as children. Books such as this, which were printed clandestinely in the liberated areas of Eritrea, were used by adults as well as children as part of a comprehensive campaign against illiteracy. Disabled soldiers were often employed to help in the printing and binding process of these books.
