This is the autobiography of Abeba Tesfagiorgis, an Eritrean-American. It is a dramatic story which relates her personal experiences in Asmara in the 1970s -- including her imprisonment by the Ethiopian secret police, and the experience of her two oldest children as fighters in the war for independence. This is one of the only Eritrean autobiographies written in English. In terms of subject matter, it is very related to Thomas Kenneally's "Towards Asmara", a fictional novel which is based on the author's visit to the liberated areas of Asmara.
